Why, GM? Why?

Why the fuck do you run coolant through the belt tensioner assembly? So goddamn stupid. Now I have to sit here burping and bleeding my coolant system just because I had a squealing belt. Sigh. Oh, well. Still one of the easier fixes I’ve ever done. And holy goddamn look at how wide the riviera’s doors go.

Because it’s 90s GM.

90s GM does whatever the fuck it wants.

The door struggle is real. I have to park very strategically since they stop at just the most uncomfortable point to gymnastics yourself in and out.

I wonder if it’s actually 80s GM and this is the result of a coked-up drafting competition? I’ll have to take a look and see if the coolant system was significantly changed from the Series I 3800

I think that 90s GM really knew that they wants their dealers to survive through the maintenece department, much like current German car companies do today.

FWIW, it took me six minutes on my lunch break to change the belt on my Subaru, and that was mostly because of the stupid plastic screws that held down the engine cover ;)

Really?

Wait.. I get it. They undersized the bearings and instead of redoing the mess they added coolant to extend its life.

It goes nowhere near the bearings.

Yeah... it was supposed to be a BRG but somehow ended up John Deere. Which is pretty awful. Needs to be black.

It’s not John Deere green, looks more like BRG to me, I guess it’s a touch lighter, but there are different variations. It just seems to need a good clear coat or something, seems flat. Polish that up and it would be like the Jaaag.

Aside from the crap transmission they put behind it, that's the worst thing about the L67. Yes, worse than the intake gaskets and valve cover gaskets. At least those are easy to change.

Yeah. I’m wanting to do a metallic gray on mine. Probably with rattlecans because it honestly can’t get much worse.

If you were closer to Michigan I’d gladly scrounge up my last box of parts and some paint and help out. It was a pretty nice car to work on save for the fuel tank (1995 only issue, yours is fine)

I get all of the fun 1997-only issues. Like computers with odd tunes, unique struts that you can’t buy Quickstrut versions of, and some weird shit with the remote doors.

As far as paint I’m probably going to do a two-stage rattle can paint job. Couple thick coats of color, sand with 1000 grit, couple thick coats of clear.

Get some filler primer. It will even out the paint you have now after some okay sanding and give you a nice base to paint on. I used it on the front of my riv to repair the paint damage.
